Shaw University

Shaw University, founded in 1865, is the first historically black university in the South. Located in downtown Raleigh, Shaw is a four-year, private, co-educational liberal arts institution affiliated with the Baptist Church. The University offers more than 30 undergraduate majors and has five nationally-accredited programs in social work, kinesiotherapy, athletic training, divinity and teacher education. Notable graduates include Ella Baker, Angie Brooks, Willie E. Gary and Shirley Caesar. In 2015, the university celebrated its 150th anniversary.
