Wendell, N.C.

25 minutes from downtown Raleigh

One look around the town of Wendell and you’ll know why its motto is “Small Town, Big Charm.” Porch swings and lush trees line Main Street, part of Wendell’s historic downtown, which is recognized on the National Register of Historic Places. Many events are hosted there throughout the year, such as the Wendell Harvest Festival, International Food and Music Festival, Wendell Wonderland and Spring Fling. Enjoy live music every Fri. evening at Wine and Beer 101 or at Grounds Café. Sat. mornings are perfect for a trip to the Wendell Farmer’s Market (running May through Oct.), where you can handpick fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers. While you’re downtown, peruse a wide array of unique retailers, all while enjoying free Wi-Fi.

For the outdoor enthusiast, trek out to Roberston Millpond Preserve where you can rent kayaks and navigate your way along Buffalo Creek. Or enjoy miles of scenic walking trails, disc golf, tennis, basketball, a new playground and a dog park for your four-legged friends at Wendell Park.
